Lesson 165. Love Created Our World

Have you ever wondered why our world, our planet Earth, was created? After all, God does nothing without a purpose; He has a special meaning and plan in everything.

But God is Love, and Love has a very good need to share Itself, to speak about Itself, to reveal Itself, and to testify through deeds that It exists and how beautiful It is.

And so, overflowing with this Love, our Creator decided to create a masterpiece of His Love. He desired to create a planet on which intelligent beings would live, all kinds of plants would grow, and an amazing animal world would dwell. On this planet, Love would fill everyone, and all creatures, though different, would serve one another. All creation would bring aesthetic delight, pleasing the eye with its perfection. Everyone would gladden one another’s hearts by their presence in this world.

God gathered all His sons and announced to them what He was going to do.

It must be taken into account that a rebellion had taken place in Heaven, and the slanderer, together with his supporters, had been removed from the Heavenly dwellings, from the presence of God, but had not been destroyed or deprived of his power.

And knowing all this and understanding that among the morning stars who had remained faithful to God there were still some who sympathized with Satan—for although the Heavenly family had been divided, emotional ties remained—God decided to take this step.

There had not yet been death in the universe, and no one had yet died from sin, but iniquity had already arisen and was very slowly but surely gaining strength. The seeds of wickedness had been sown, the Name of God had been dishonored, and this evil could at any moment cause those seeds of doubt, discontent, and envy that had entered the minds of intelligent beings to sprout. The Word of God briefly tells of this rebellion, but it was the most tragic event in the Heavenly dwellings. God’s family was divided, never to be reunited, and the rebellious morning stars were doomed to inevitable death because of the sin that had afflicted their minds.

And in such a tense situation, the Lord decided to create our world, a small planet in the boundless universe.

And then that day came. The minds of all the angels were occupied with the incident that had taken place, and no one could imagine what it would lead to. And God gathered them all together.

And then the Lord spoke a word, and in empty space, out of nothing, a new planet suddenly appeared, entirely covered with water. The sons of God were astonished beyond measure; they shouted for joy and could not understand how anyone could live on such a strange planet or what the Lord had planned.

And all this took place in total darkness, and only the Light coming from the Father and the Son illuminated this creation. But the Lord spoke a word again, and there was light. And the whole Earth was illuminated by the glory of God. Light was everywhere.

And so the first day passed. In anticipation of how events would unfold, the angels discussed and speculated about what could possibly come from this planet. They were very interested in what the Lord intended to do next. Their minds turned to the new creation, and there was no limit to their astonishment and admiration.

And then the second day came. The Son spoke a word, and the water covering the Earth was divided. Part of it rose upward, creating a covering around the planet, while part of it covered the surface of the Earth, and an expanse of air was formed between them. But it was still unclear what would happen next. Another day ended. The angels enthusiastically discussed what they had seen and shared their guesses about what would happen afterward.

On the third day, the Son spoke a word, and part of the water went into the depths of the Earth. And the Earth took on an entirely different appearance: dry land appeared. Seas, rivers, lakes, and springs of water remained; all of this was harmoniously distributed throughout the Earth. And the Lord spoke a word again, declaring that the Earth would bring forth all kinds of grasses, flowers, and trees. The world would be filled with fragrance and become even more beautiful. The angels’ delight knew no bounds as they realized what it would look like. Amazing plants began appearing everywhere.

It was a masterpiece of Love, and the angels shouted for joy and amazement. What would happen next?

On the fourth day, God spoke a word, and the Sun and the Moon appeared. Sunlight gave warmth, and in its rays the whole world was transformed with extraordinary colors. The night sky was amazingly beautiful. The Moon reflected the light of the Sun, and all the stars of the boundless universe appeared before their eyes in their magnificence.

How wonderfully God’s Love and Its perfection were revealed in every leaf, in every object, and in every little stone that filled the Earth.

Everyone waited enthusiastically for the events that would follow.

On the fifth day, the Son spoke a word concerning the water, and it received the power to bring forth animal life that had the ability to reproduce independently after its kind. Amazing creatures began to come forth from the seas and lakes, and the Earth was filled with sounds, movement, and joy. All creation praised its Creator. The angels looked with admiration at every bird, fish, and little animal, upon which these words were written in a perfect language: God is Love. The earthly and Heavenly families joined together in joyful delight, glorifying their Creator.

The fifth day came to an end, but the delight of the sons of God did not end.

And then, on the sixth day, the Lord announced that They would create man in Their Image and after Their Likeness, and that he would be given dominion over the Earth. Everyone began to watch in amazement to see what would happen next.

The Father and the Son took the dust of the ground and formed from it the likeness of a man. And there lay a body, resembling the Creator in its proportions, but without life. Then the Lord took this body and breathed His breath into it, and man became a living soul. The imprint of profound reason and intelligence was reflected on his face, and it shone with joy and Love. All the angels stood motionless in amazement.

Man received his first instructions about life and assurances of God’s Love, and the whole Earth, prepared for him to inhabit, was presented to him.

The sixth day came to an end. And what would happen next?

God spent the seventh day at rest, enjoying the work of His hands, communing with His creation, and blessing everyone with His personal presence. For Adam, this was the second day of his life, and he joyfully listened to all the instructions and words that proceeded from the mouth of God.

And the Lord blessed the seventh day and sanctified it. He especially set apart this day in time, making the first man understand that it was a unique day that would always remind him of Who is the Creator and true Ruler of the Earth.

To sanctify means to set apart for a special purpose.

But the man was alone, and among the animals he found no one equal to him. And the angels wondered where the man and the woman, who had been spoken of at the beginning, were. But when Adam realized that he needed a friend equal to him, the Lord put him to sleep, took one of his ribs, and from it formed a being opposite to the man, yet equal to him in intellect and more perfect in her inner qualities. All the sons of God shouted for joy. Two new beings appeared in the world. They were different, yet they were the Image and Likeness of God. They could reveal the beauty of God’s Love even more fully and visibly represent It in their relationship.

We were created by Love for Love. We are all children of those first human beings, and we carry within ourselves a part of their first Love for each other, placed there by the Creator.

God is Love, and we are the masterpiece of His Love, His creation.
